Sign ups are open for Yuletide, but I'm forced to use IE 6.x for work. So I can't sign up until I get home and can use Firefox.

(No, Firefox Portable will not function on this computer. Yes, I've tried it. I've even tried grabbing the proxy server out of the information for IE and putting it in the appropriate spot on Firefox, and it still won't work. I may be good with computers, but I'm not that good.)

Subject:So. Elizabeth/John. Older fic.
Security:Public

Every now and again, I get lovely feedback on my story where Atlantis wants Elizabeth and John to have babies. (Not to mention the fact that Atlantis loves Elizabeth.)

I know, I know. Shut up. I love that fic, though. I wrote it in response to several factors (not just the ones listed in the author's notes of that story), including a story where Elizabeth felt excluded by not having the ATA gene (um, no, stfu), and conversations with [info - livejournal.com] mylittleredgirl about how Atlantis loves Elizabeth, and is a little lonely without her. Because, after all, Atlantis had Elizabeth to keep her company for ten thousand years.

Don't ask me how that went to "Atlantis wants Elizabeth and John to have babies." Maybe Atlantis loves John too, and is matchmaking? Never mind the fact that Elizabeth and John are already together in this fic. Babies. (Why did my matchmaker fic involve the damn city as the matchmaker? Why did my brain go there?)

Regardless of why I did it, I have to say, I get some good feedback on that story. So I can't complain too much.

ETA: Um, the fic is here. Sorry. Didn't think to link it.

Subject:Carnivale, Claymore, and other Netflix watches.

You know, some episodes, I can really tell that Ron Moore was involved. Like the last two I've watched, which are Babylon and Pick a Number.

Spoilers for Babylon and Pick a Number )

Given Ron Moore's involvment, and my problems with women in BSG (especially after the first two seasons), I think I'm glad that Carnivale ended after only two seasons. I'm not sure, though, because there are some damn good actors on that series, and I'm enjoying the rest of the plot. Hopefully this was just a detour from the awesome.

Please don't spoil me on anything past the first six episodes. I'm trying to watch the series unspoiled.

In other news, the Claymore DVDs I've been getting off Netflix have been consistently awesome. I love Claire like nobody's business. Raki annoys me, but that type of character (who doesn't listen to the expert) always bothers me. I'm halfway through the discs.

Other things I've watched from Netflix: The modern remake of The Initiation of Sarah was surprisingly enjoyable, if not great. It had Summer Glau and Jennifer Tilly, and was, therefore, pretty awesome for that alone. The Lost Boys: The Tribe was awful. I mean, seriously. It was horrible. The Thirst, which has the Whedon cast of doom, was enjoyable, if not the best vampire movie ever. Partly it was enjoyable just because of the Whedon cast of doom, mind you. Also, I'm partly through series one of Coupling UK. My God, these people are all crazy. Thankfully, it keeps me amused.

ETA: The comments of the LJ version of this post, while spoilery for Carnivale (if you care), have also turned into a recs list for media with awesome women. If you're into that sort of thing.

Halloween costume! )

Wish I had more pics, but unfortunately my camera was faily again! Hopefully I'll pull out the costume a couple more times, though. :D

I went to a fun party Friday night with [info - personal] sailorptah and a bunch of archaeology students. Then Saturday we dressed up as the Doctor and Jack (yay!) and went to the Museum of Science to see the Harry Potter exhibit (and the DINOSAURS, and saw Dr. Desilva talk about Ardi, which was awesome). The HP exhibit was fun and interesting, if a bit superficial.

Also: David Tennant on SJA, holy crap. Is it time for more real DW yet?? (Nov. 15 I think.)

I ended up staying in on Halloween proper, being still sick and also somewhat oversocialized, but it seems I didn't miss much at the party my flatmate attended. It was an absolutely gorgeous night though, warm and moonlit and properly windy to accommodate my overcoat. Just walking around Cambridge on Halloween night, seeing all kinds of people happily greeting each other, from tiny princesses to 30-year-old Harry Potters to Kermit the Frog serenading us from a 2nd-floor window, was enough to make this a pretty excellent Halloween.

364 days till next Halloween!!!

(By the way, don't forget to turn back your clocks.)

... I am off to eat pears and read about the cultural ecology of New England.

Mood: sick

Hello internets. I have a cold. It started with a sore throat last Wednesday, just as I was finishing my theory paper, then proceeded to get slowly better and then worse again, and yesterday it became a sore throat/cough/sniffly thing. But I don't have a fever! So it's not the flu! I'm attacking it with vitamins and cough drops and decongestants, hoping it will go away by the weekend, so I can run at least a little bit amok without making myself sicker. ):

Although I probably should not have, because it was rainy and I was sick, I attended the BOSTON BOOK FESTIVAL this weekend! I was sad that I missed the National Book Festival this year, and also MR JOHN HODGMAN was speaking, and so I was unable to resist.

John approves of his nomination for the Stephen T. Colbert Award For The Literary Excellence. )

Anyway, I just realized I have more homework than I thought I did, so I am off to work on that. And also to cough a lot. ARGH.
